Story
With the bright shining moon over a quiet snowfall, the romance of a moon light sleigh ride by the lake and the splender of the Biltmore Estate, I present to you "An American Castle."
Located in Asheville, NC, this 250 room mansion, built by George Vanderbilt in 1895, brings the enchanting Gilded Age of European castles to life right here in America. This great home with over 4 acres of floor space took 6 years and 1,000 men to build. It has 65 fireplaces, 43 bathroons, 34 bedrooms, 3 kitchens and a 74ft.X42ft. banquet hall with a grand dinner table that seats as many as 64 guest.
Another bit of information: In 1942, the National Gallery in Washington, DC moved all their artwork to the estate for war protection.
