Story
The train featured in this print is the Yadkin Valley Train that runs through the foothills of North Carolina. I chose to paint it as seen going by the Home Chair Company in Ronda, North Carolina. This is a hometown company that has provided jobs for many generations of folks in Wilkes County as well as producing a fine line of chairs. Like most of the textile companies in our state the chair company closed, a couple of years before I did this painting, putting a lot of good folks out of work.
Shortly, after finishing this painting, the Yadkin Valley Train was sold to another line and is no longer called the Yadkin Valley. It is such a shame that so many important things in our lives are just closed and put aside. This is a vital part of the history of the Yadkin Valley area here in North Carolina.
