This is one of my favorite places on our farm. Shortly after my husband and I got married in 1971, Fred, a cousin of mine gave me the pair of Chinese geese seen here. They were just babies when we got them. I named the gander Ferd and the goose was Lucy. We built them a house on the edge of the pond and over the years, they raised several baby diddles and lived happily on our pond. In the winter of 1996, Ferd died. Shortly there after, Lucy started to become frail and weak. After having the local vetinarian check her, he said that these geese mate for life and there probably would not be anything we could do except feed and lover her for the time she had left. Lucy died the following fall. What a love story.
