Here, in North Carolina, we have a variety of geographical places to live and visit. Just 15 miles west of my home, small knolls begin to rise to bigger and bigger hills. These are the foot hills to the Blue Ridge Mountain range. These foothills are referred to as the "Brushy Mountains." Having the proper soil, yearly temperatures and altitude makes these small knolls a great region for growing apples.
In the fall, at harvest time, there's a lot of action in the local orchards. The apples are picked and packed with care for shipping to grocery stores and for the "Brushy Mountain Apple Festival" held in North Wilksboro, NC. in October. The festival gives the local farmers the chance to show off and sell their great tasting Brushy Mountain Apples. It's a great time for all. With lots of apple tarts, pies, cakes, jellies etc. to taste one can come away with some great apple recipes and apples to make them.
Then heading up the edge of these foothills looking for a nice view for painting, I came across this old family farm house and its outbuildings which are quite typical of the area. The thing that caught my eye first was the old mailbox covered with vines of purple blooms. The lid had fallen open leaving one letter in plain site. Thus the title "The Letter."
This print can be framed beautifully in anything from rustic to chic.
